AI Hardware Rout Deepens as AMD Slides, Pressuring Super Micro
AI infrastructure stocks took a beating this week, with AMD falling roughly 7% after earnings as investors questioned the capital requirements and near-term monetization of aggressive AI buildouts. Sandisk and Western Digital also saw punishing post-earnings reactions, and the Nasdaq lagged the broader market.
The selloff spilled into server names, with Super Micro Computer slipping more than 4% ahead of its August 11 earnings report. The stock remains tightly tied to AI server demand, Nvidia GPU availability, and data-center spending, leaving it exposed when the market questions whether AI hardware growth expectations have run too far.
The pullback stands in contrast to the Dow, which has continued printing record highs as investors rotate toward value and earnings-driven names. Super Micro's report next week now looms as a key test for the AI hardware trade.
