American Airlines Sinks 8% as Guidance Cut Overshadows Q2 Beat

American Airlines reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $0.15 per share on Thursday, well ahead of the $0.03 analysts expected, as revenue rose 16% to $16.74 billion — slightly below consensus. Despite the bottom-line beat, shares fell 8% on the session.

The selloff was driven by a cut to full-year guidance: American now expects 2026 adjusted results ranging from a loss of $0.65 per share to a profit of $0.65, below the range it gave in April. Management cited softer domestic demand and higher fuel costs as crude prices climb on Middle East supply disruptions.

The reaction weighed on the broader airline group, including Delta Air Lines, as investors reassess how $100 oil and a cautious consumer will pressure second-half margins across the sector.
