Cal-Maine, Egg Producers Settle Price-Collusion Claims for $3.3 Million

Cal-Maine Foods and other major U.S. egg producers agreed to pay $3.3 million and donate 53 million eggs to resolve government claims that they colluded to raise egg prices between 2022 and 2025. No company admitted wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
The resolution removes a legal overhang for Cal-Maine, the largest U.S. egg producer, which has navigated years of scrutiny over pricing during avian-flu-driven supply shortages that sent retail egg prices to records.
Investors will now turn to the company's fundamentals — egg prices have normalized from their peaks, and the settlement's modest cash component suggests limited financial impact relative to Cal-Maine's balance sheet.
