Clover Health Leans on PPO Plans as Medicare Advantage Pricing Tightens

Clover Health is positioning its Medicare Advantage business around pricing discipline, member retention and the maturation of existing member cohorts as competitors across the industry narrow their networks. The insurer continues to offer preferred provider organization plans, including zero-premium and low-premium options, while much of the sector shifts toward tighter health maintenance organization designs.

Unlike several Medicare Advantage peers, Clover retains full financial risk for its entire member population rather than delegating that risk to downstream value-based providers. Management has framed that structure as an advantage as cohorts age into more predictable cost patterns.

The company's plans will be available to roughly 5.2 million Medicare-eligible beneficiaries across 203 counties in five states for the 2026 plan year. Clover reported adjusted earnings of five cents per share on revenue of $743.2 million in the second quarter, ahead of analyst estimates on both lines, and the shares have risen sharply over the past six months.
