Global Chip Rout Deepens: SK Hynix Plunges 15%, Dragging U.S. Names
A global semiconductor selloff intensified Tuesday after SK Hynix plunged nearly 15% in Seoul and Samsung Electronics fell more than 13%, rattling chip and AI-hardware names worldwide. Tokyo Electron dropped about 11%, Kioxia sank more than 18%, and TSMC closed almost 3% lower.
The weakness carried into U.S. premarket trading, where Micron slid nearly 5%, Intel and AMD lost more than 3%, and Nvidia dipped about 1%. Nasdaq-100 futures were down 0.9% while Dow futures held modestly higher, underscoring the rotation away from the year's hottest trade. Memory-linked stocks are now down more than 20% from recent highs, in bear-market territory.
The rout is a fresh test for AI-server maker Super Micro Computer, which surged earlier this week on a $60 billion order backlog. Investors will watch whether demand commentary from the sector holds up as valuations reset.
