Gold rose more than 1% on Friday to roughly $4,210 to $4,220 an ounce, while silver gained about 2% to near $60.58, lifting precious-metals miners across the market.
Metal-mining stocks gained about 2.6% on the day as investors weighed geopolitical risk, elevated oil prices and a Federal Reserve that recently raised rates to a 3.75% to 4.00% range.
Gold and silver producers such as Hecla Mining and Pan American Silver are sensitive to moves in the underlying metals, and diversified miner Freeport-McMoRan also tracks broader metals sentiment. Next week's inflation data could influence whether the rally extends.
