Precious metals edged higher on Friday. Gold futures rose 0.59% to $4,194.90 an ounce and silver futures gained 1.35% to $57.92 an ounce, as investors looked for shelter from a sharp selloff in technology stocks.
Bitcoin rose 2.09% to $81,765.27 in early trading but was still on track for a second straight weekly loss. The pairing of firmer metals and a softer crypto market reflects a cautious tone across risk assets.
For miners of gold and silver, higher metal prices can improve margins, while bitcoin miners remain sensitive to moves in the underlying coin.
