Gold fell roughly 1.3% on Friday to about $4,008 an ounce, putting the $4,000 level in sight as higher energy prices and rising yields lifted interest-rate expectations. Silver dropped about 1.5% to near $53.92.
Copper moved the other way, gaining 1.78% to $6.476 a pound. The split highlights how industrial metals and precious metals are responding to different pressures.
Miners with exposure to both metals, including Freeport-McMoRan, which reports third-quarter results on October 27, may see mixed trading as investors weigh the two trends.
