Gold Spikes Over 5% as Metals Rally Puts Miners in the Spotlight
Gold surged more than 5% Monday, one of its sharpest single-day moves of the year, as investors piled into precious metals alongside the broader risk rally. The move extends a historic run: silver has more than doubled over the past year, touching record levels near $122 an ounce earlier in 2026, while gold's rally has analysts at Goldman Sachs projecting prices approaching $4,900 an ounce by year-end.
The surge lands at an opportune moment for silver producers. Hecla Mining, the largest primary silver producer in the US and Canada, and Pan American Silver both head into earnings this week with metal prices near records. Pan American brings a strong balance sheet with about $1.6 billion in cash and a dividend it hiked 29% earlier this year.
Analysts remain constructive on the group, with consensus price targets implying meaningful upside for Hecla, though the sector's volatility cuts both ways after such a fast run.
