Kroger is moving forward with its $1.65 billion acquisition of Giant Eagle, a deal aimed at expanding its footprint while preserving the regional chain's local identity. The grocer also announced a meaningful dividend increase and appointed a new Chief People Officer.

Separately, Kroger scrapped plans to build dozens of Harris Teeter stores across Florida, though the company may keep its Jacksonville location as it reallocates capital amid competitive pressure in the grocery sector.
