NIO's Chip Bet Pays Off: CXMT Stake Jumps Fivefold After Blockbuster IPO

NIO received a rare piece of good news Monday: the electric-vehicle maker's 158 million yuan stake in ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has jumped more than fivefold in value after the Chinese DRAM maker's debut on Shanghai's STAR Market.

The windfall comes at a welcome moment for NIO shareholders. The stock has fallen for seven straight sessions, closing 3.3% lower at $4.49 on Friday, as mixed delivery numbers and intensifying competition in China's EV market weigh on sentiment.

While the CXMT gain is modest relative to NIO's cash needs, it highlights value embedded in the company's investment portfolio and its exposure to China's push for semiconductor self-sufficiency — a theme analysts flag alongside NIO's premium SUV lineup and in-house chip efforts as potential catalysts.
