Riot Platforms Drops With Bitcoin Miners as Crypto Slides Toward $64K

Riot Platforms fell about 7% as bitcoin miners sold off across the board, with bitcoin trading near $64,460 and pressure mounting on crypto-linked and high-beta data center names. Peers fell in sympathy: MARA lost roughly 6.8%, CleanSpark 6.3% and IREN 8.8%, pointing to a sector-wide move rather than a company-specific setback.
The slide comes as Riot rebalances its business between bitcoin mining and AI-focused data centers. The company recently filed a $416.4 million shelf registration tied to an employee stock offering, moved 500 BTC to NYDIG Custody, and was added to multiple Russell growth benchmarks.
With mining economics still tied directly to bitcoin prices, investors are watching whether the AI data center pivot can diversify revenue before the next halving cycle squeezes margins further.
