Super Micro Computer released preliminary results for its fiscal first quarter, ended September 30, projecting revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion. That compares with prior guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion. Shares rose more than 11% in after-hours trading following the update.

Gross margin is expected at 12.0% to 12.5%, above the earlier 10.4% to 10.8% outlook but below the prior quarter's 17.5%, reflecting the thinner margins typical of large AI server deals.

Risks remain, including a U.S. case alleging diversion of AI-chip servers to China, an independent board review, and an upcoming CFO change. Full results and the earnings call are scheduled for November 3.
