UPS Trades Near $99 as New Operating Model Takes Effect
United Parcel Service closed at $99.19 on Friday, giving the carrier a market capitalization of roughly $84.4 billion. The quote reflects a stock that has fallen about 32.5% over five years, even as the company moves through one of its larger structural reorganizations.
A new global operating model took effect September 1, restructuring how UPS integrates its worldwide logistics network with the stated aim of serving customers with greater consistency and scale. The changes came with a leadership reshuffle. Kate Gutmann retired after nearly 37 years and stays on as a strategic advisor through March 2027, with Wilfredo Ramos taking over international, healthcare and supply chain solutions. Matt Guffey was named Chief U.S. Domestic Officer covering Small Package, Roadie, Happy Returns, The UPS Stores and Mail Innovations, while Nando Cesarone took responsibility for the global air network, gateways and surface transportation. A newly created Chief Global Commercial Strategy Officer role remains unfilled.
The dividend is where the market's attention sits. UPS declared a quarterly payout of $1.64 on September 3, but the yield has climbed above 6% on the back of the share price decline, against a payout ratio near 94% and tight free cash flow margins. Bernstein initiated coverage with a Buy rating earlier in the month.
