Walmart Cuts Coca-Cola Prices 33% in Summer Push, Testing Coke's Pricing Power

Walmart has cut the price of Coca-Cola 24-packs by 33% to $9.97 as part of a broad summer campaign slashing prices on thousands of items, including staples like ground beef. Walmart shares moved higher on the announcement as investors bet the cuts will widen the retailer's lead if competitors don't match them.

The move puts a spotlight on Coca-Cola's pricing power just weeks before the beverage giant reports second-quarter earnings. Coke stock has been a strong performer, up 16.2% in 2026 through June 30 versus 9.5% for the S&P 500, and touched an all-time intraday high of $85.68 on July 7.

For Walmart, the aggressive discounting strains already thin operating margins of about 5%, but the strategy is aimed at driving traffic and market share gains. For Coca-Cola investors, the key question is whether retailer-led price cuts pressure the company's own realized pricing in the second half.
