Warsh's Jackson Hole Debut Headlines a Quiet Data Week

Markets enter the final full week of August with few major economic releases on the calendar, leaving attention squarely on the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, which runs August 27–29 in Wyoming. It will be the first symposium chaired by Kevin Warsh, whose keynote on monetary policy is set for Thursday, August 27.
Warsh has spent his early months as chair calling for a monetary policy 'regime change' and arguing that above-target inflation has persisted too long. After Fed minutes flagged the possibility of further tightening and a bruising week for long-dated Treasurys, investors will parse his remarks for how aggressive that agenda may be — and his speech lands just 19 days before the next Fed decision.
Strategists are marking the three-day symposium as a volatility window. The S&P 500 sits less than 2% from its all-time high after Friday's rebound, so a hawkish surprise from the podium could test the dip-buying that has supported stocks through the month's bond-driven turbulence.
